Low success rate is almost certainly related to the novice's unfamiliarity w/ acceptable substrate moisture content. After you've suceeded, you get to know how to make the subs so they'll colonize better. In time, you won't even have to measure.

Believe in yourself, keep an open mind and enjoy a spirited sense of adventure.
