I just had a thought, since i have seen mush grow on 5 minute rice , could i then use it as a casing layer after the grains have inccubated?? ... like just for a little more nutes ??? ... then inncubate the casing for a little longer after maybe iuno ... any objections cause i think i am going to try it out

rice is best kept in pf jars, ur gonna run into contams, if you make it far enough to overlay thats prolly gonna happen but I dont think ur gonna get that far.
rice does hold a bit of moisture , just not as much as vermiculite or coco coir, I haven't got into peat, straw or poo yet.

but in combination with the 50\50 cococoir and verm ,,, just put some rice on top of the wbs and then the 50\50 on top ,, im going to try it anyways just for the fun of it

It can't hurt to try, thats how all of this started anyway, I would just keep the casing separate from any others you may or may not have. GL

The reasons casing layers work are because they are nute poor and hold lots of water. Rice in the casing layer is just asking for trouble! But hey it's your time and effort not mine GL
