Spirituality as distinct from having a good time
    #3621402 - 01/13/05 01:07 AM (11 years, 10 months ago)

okay, so this friend of mine, we used to eat mushrooms together a lot when I still lived in Victoria. here's the thing: he likes having fun as much as the next guy, but when he eats mushrooms, he gets all serious because it's 'spiritual' to be high on mushrooms, they're a sacrament etc. when I'm on mushrooms, I get super interested in things, and also ideas/concepts, and I talk a lot, and everything amuses me and I chuckle and laugh a lot. He sometimes got mad at me because I wasn't reverent and silent and spiritual enough!

I can totally understand disliking those dudes who go downtown and buy mushrooms off some sketchy guy and eat them, and go to a party, "Wow, check out the crazy colours man! That chick's really hot! I feel like I'm made of helium!" that's annoying and, imo, a waste of good drugs. but don't swing the pendulum too far! I get all giggly on mushrooms because I am suddenly able to see how arbitrary things are, or some things, and I find it funny when people take arbitrary things very seriously. and then I see how seriously I am taking that thought, and laugh at myself. you know, mushroomy stuff.

anyways, leave me alone, let me laugh if I want to, you can go find a waterfall somewhere and swim naked under it or whatever, but don't preach. how spiritual is it to preach?

hey
i have more fun not thinking about it and going with it
than sit in a fucking room and explore
sometimes you do this sometimes that
life is about fun really..
you'll also notice that people who take everything seriusly , including pot, end up not beeing able to smoke anymore cause it gets them paranoid
have a good time and things will come .. and when they do, they will from a happier prespective

of course it's okay to laugh! There is much joy to be had in spirituality. As long as laughter is not the goal of your exploration then you are fine. tell you friend not to take life (and the mushroom trip) too seriously or he'll never get out of it alive.

Yeah I like it. I think I might be the guy that takes things too seriously sometimes, but, not normally. I agree that spirituality and having a good time seem to have separated pretty heavily in these days, especially in the Shroomery sometimes.

Wonder why that is..

really, it doesn't matter to me at all what other people do with mushrooms.

if they enjoy them, for whatever reason, that's good

personally, I'm more of a alone-in-the-dark type of tripper, as this makes for the most amazing experiences imo. you can literally transcend reality when you have no stimuli holding you down, and one can come across the most amazing realizations and mindstates.

but really, mushrooms anytime are amazing. I enjoy them laughing with friends too, as this can be an incredible experience itself. the laughter is a form of evil possession that seeks to rip your upper body in half while it pulses through infinty, we all know that feeling

so tolerance is key. tolerance of others' intolerance as well

Yes, I like to take them right before flying my Cessna to Lake Tahoe.

that's true I guess. you debunked me. but the difference is, I don't go up to those partying dudes tripping on shrooms and tell them off. nor, indeed, do I tell my friend off for telling me off. I just bugger off, and eat mushrooms the way I like to

Why doesn it matter if you are both equally wrong ? (I don't see how either of you are) It would be extremely annoying to have a friend that treated a chemical substance as being spiritual.

But isn't it a biological substance? Oh, no it's a chemical I guess.. unlike all things?

before we go on, let's get one important thing out of the way: the word 'spiritual' has ONE definition, and that is whatever I think it is.

There is no right way to take mushroom (although there are wrong ways). personally i will take them for both spriritual work and for "fun". these are a wonder full experience and should be enjoyed in as many ways as possible. there is no reason not to take them to have a good time and enjoy the euphoric effects. indeed, for me there is always an everpresent sense of spirituality in every experience i have had with these fungi, even when taken for 'fun'.
they are a sacrament, imo, but too often the searcher can forget that spiritual investigation and awareness is supposed to be fun too. the ancients reveled as they worshipped and the two were often indistinguishable. there is no reason to always (i mean everytime), unless that's what you do. remember though, you should laugh. ecstasy (in the shamanic sense) is often euphoric and i have escaped my material body through laughter (became the double for those of you who have read your castenada). the euphoric effects are part and parcel of the experience.
on the other hand, i also use the exprience for deep person exploration and magic/shamanic practice. it is an invaluable tool for serious spiritual worker and enthonauts. in many cases, the 'spiritual' aspect overtakes me on its own. the god of the mushroom has something to say to show and one cannot but listen and see.
revel and worship, i say.
just my two cents of course.

tke
