    #3621039 - 01/13/05 12:04 AM (12 years, 3 months ago)

here's the scoop. i've been working at Wal-Mart for about 5 years now. once the new year came in i was booted from my old dept to the ft registers. i am very disappointed and expressed that when my boss told me. now i want a raise and don't know how to go about it. any help?

If Walmart is anything like Kmart, and it probably is, you will most likely only get a raise annually. Like, at your yearly review. Thats the only time I've ever had a raise.

Actually, I'm working for Sam's Club. NOT Wal-Mart. There is a big difference. Trust me, it's more like a Warehouse for people that can afford the $35 membership. Wal-Mart is a circus and i try to stay out of there. I do deserve this raise. I want something to back me up when the boss says "Dick, why do you deserve this raise?" get me? HELP!!

I worked at sams club too, you'll be really lucky if they give you a raise other than the yearly review one. Personally i wouldn't be so concerned about getting a raise that is sure to be pretty small and focus more on whether this is what you want to be doing day in and day out. IMHO

That^^^^ is a f**ked statement. I believe any job where you work your ass off IS a REAL job.

If you've proven to them that you are worth the raise, then ask for one. The worst they can say is no. You either deal with that, or look for something new. There are places that give scheduled raises as well as raises when promoted...ever consider a promotion?
That's a sure way to get a raise, if you're up for that kind of responsibility . Just a suggestion.
If you're not happy there, don't stay there...you'll only make the job less enjoyable for you, your employers and the customers.

I'm a boss and I've seen it from all points of view.

Good luck!

I have been responsible for recommending raises for employees in the past. If you think you deserve a raise then simply put together a list of reasons you deserve a raise and present it to your employer/manager. If you aren't sure you deserve a raise then don't bother asking. Some good things to include are recent advances in education, what you offer to the company, increased responsibility you are willing and able to take on, and last and least why you need more money. If you can get some sort of job offer paying more (or make up a believable one) then that isn't a bad thing to mention as well. Just be respectful and confident.
