To Case or Not To Case?
    #3620769 - 01/12/05 11:16 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

i have 4 bread pans with 50/50+ over and under colonized rye. i let them sit for 1 week in an incubator covered with tin foil. now, the casing seem coved with mycelium, but not horrific. a good amount though. i cased 2 out 4 lightly and now i'm fruiting them. do you think i should have cased all 4 lightly. it's the idea of patching.

Yea, you don't want myc. to even break the surface...I've seen people fruit w/ myc. breaking surface, and fruit well..i only wish that i had pics of people who didnt let it break...But you could always experiment

Ignostic, are you saying that there are better results by not letting the myc break the surface?

Straw/Manure cased with Meijer seed starter(mix of everything good).

Only incubated for 2 days(1 small spot of myc broke hru 1/4in caseing. Yield was 29g's dry.

As you can see this casing the myc broke thru evenly-

Basically, I've tried this and so far my mushrooms are looking pretty nice, hopefully i'll get some sub. soon and a camera and post my results, everyone needs some type of proof, whether it's scientifical....or something as simplistic as pics...

But, Then again there's lots of variables that contribute to how your mushrooms grow and ectera, but thus far, not letting the myc. break surface After letting the sub. reconfigurate(i let the sub. sit in w/e i have it in, pan,w/e, and then let it sit for a day or 2 and let it colonize and become awhole mass, better pinset), has so far shown to be better in my case.
