Does anybody else think this is a waste? Why remake such a GREAT film. I love the original, so why insult it with a remake. Or at least I'm assuming its a remake considering that Willy Wonka is in the cast.

It is a remake, and I think it's a good idea. Burton is great at story-telling, and the general feel and ambiance of his films is awesome. Gene Wilder made Wonka into a dreamer and jokester, where in the book by Roald Dahl he is more malignant, more darkly mischievious. I'm sure Depp will be able to convey that. I look forward to seeing this movie.
True, the first was great, and why fuck with a great? Because other people have different interpretations of a story, and I wanna see where Tim Burton takes it. As long as he doesn't do what they did to "Psycho". But I doubt that would happen.

Lol, anjaba i hope you realize that it was originally a book that is nothing like the 1971 film. I loved the 1971 film but it was the disgrace... to the book that is. Burton's movie is expected to be more in line with the book which means it will take a darker tone as if the vibe of that chocolate river boat ride was present throught most of the film.
I expect it to be quite good.

 Ahhhh..I've never read the book. Hmmmm...now it's actually intrigueing hearing that the book is different. Especially considering how I hate movies that differ from the books. I think I found some literature to keep me busy

Read it... it'll take all of 2 days, and that's if you're an incredibly slow reader. And it's very good. Very different from the more popular film.

Alright, I just watched the trailer. It looks updated and pretty cool. I like the "wonka-vision" glasses.
Chewing gum is really gross, chewing gum I hate the most.

A movie can deviate from the book that it was based on and still be good. Kubrik's version of the shining was an amazing movie, yet it was vastly different from King's novel. The version that did fall in line with the book actually sucked pretty hard.
Anyways, Im really looking forward to the new wonka movie. And as others have said, I'll be gettin really baked before I see it
