Baking Experiment

Well a friend took some WBS jars. They were soaked for 18 hours...pressure cooked @ 15psi for 110minutes then cooled for 6 hours. Then they were baked in the oven (set at 350 with jars inside) and as the oven warmed up the jars removed after 5minutes. The WBS opens up like when simmered, but maybe 50% of the grain only.

A G2G will be done for colonization. This method was used once before with success, but a second run for confidence.

The point is to open up some of the grain for myc consumption. Colonization times will be updated when availible.

My new method to my (WBS/BRF) is...

Soak/Simmer/Sit-In-Fridge (24H/2H/1WK) for Wild Bird Seed
Soak/Simmer/Sit-In-Fridge (24H/2H/1WK) for Long Grain Brown Rice

Then...

Throw WBS in blender, add enough water to cover. Blend (2 second intervals "Pulse High", more will burn up your motor.) Add more water as needed, until you hear blade spin super-fast, (No resistance and gurgling from blending action.) Then, pulse for ten second intervals, until it looks like gravy, with pepper specks in it. (No chunks)

I do the same with the Long Grain Brown Rice. Then store both in seporate containers for 1 more week.

Each blend takes over an hour... Give your blender 1 min. to cool down between pulses. (It will need it!)

After that week, I pour 50/50 over damp vermeculite. (Flood then drain water from vermeculite. (True ratio 1:1:2 BRF:WBS:VERM)

Now I add to jars, and don't tap it down. Then PC, then inoculate, then incubate. (So fast!, not the prep, the incubation.) It is like feeding grand-pa porrage-steak, instead of making him chew without his false teeth... He can eat three steaks now, not 1/2 a steak!

By the way... I noticed that only my bird seeds get white-cob-web mold in the fridge... (Sealed, and cold.) I PC that too... It goes Bye-bye, and becomes food itself!

Well on 1/14 a G2G of Thai Lipa Yai was done to all 7 jars. Incubating now at 85f. Updates will follow.

email update from a friend: well all 8 jars are 95% colonized (had a power loss for 2 days where temps were in 60's!), but now they all look healthy and almost done!
