How much thinking is TOO much thinking?
    #3618431 - 01/12/05 04:10 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

When I was younger I used to think that I was smarter than the average person just because of the ideas I could come up with philosophically.

Then I realized that I was thinking too deep about simple things that had no meaning in the first place.

I find that alot of people feel that they are intelligent simply because they always look too far into things and try to give extra meaning to something that has no meaning.

I realized in my life how much thinking was too much thinking for myself.

Have you?

You know that feeling when you eat something like cornflakes
and you just put more and more in your mouth untill you realize
you are going to have to stop and chew for a while.

When you get that feeling when thinking, stop

The standard reference for thinking to much should be ME. I think too much is when: you're thought are superflous or repetitive, without usefull substance, take you farther away from reality into abstractions, and make you unhappy (depressed, paranoid, anxious, angry).

Most of what comes from our "thinking mind" is a waste. Our "thinking mind" can never be focused on the present. Think about it, what DO you activly "think" for. Most things that you've learned you just know. When you are conversing with someone you speak back without having to think. Most people know that 5x5=25 without having to activly engage in self-talk to find out. What, really, is ANY thinking good for, other than keeping us trapped in the past or dreaming about the future?

Most of the time when I talk to someone I can't pay attention to what they say in return for more than 5 seconds before I drift off...

Ya but screw chewing, it's overrated. I just swallow my cornflakes whole and keep shoving them in.

What is the meaning of a banana anyway? On the one hand it is just a fruit but on the other, it was birthed into creation here for some purpose of meaning we must uncover if we are to be fullfilled with the knowledge of the all.

Leave no monkey food unturned in your quest for the holy grail.

I have to rate you for that one skystone.

I know i still think about thoughts to much, cause then im caught in a continual stream of thoughts and have to find my space again, relax and observe the thoughts arising and falling instead of contiunally thinking about the thoughts and getting lost in their perpetual motion!

But 99% of the time i seriously caught up in thinking! I wish i was free from thought  :frown:
