substitute autoclavable bag w/ tyvek

My friend was just wondering - is it possible to substitute a autoclave bag for a tyvek? He was thinking of using a tyvek to sterilize his casing mix in his pressure cooker, for his oyster mushroom... Do you guys think it is possible? Or will the bag just melt to the sides of the PC or something?

WARNING
If bag is 100% tyvek, content will dry out, as you will have 100% gas exchange area.(unless you keep bag @ around 90% RH). Plus you will not be able to see CONTENT.

autoclaving then maybe putting the tyvek bag inside a plastic bag during colonization would help.

You can put a Tyvek patch on an oven bag. The bags come from your grocery and are used for turkeys and the like. Here's the tek. (Thanks Agar) http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...rue#Post3474887

Can you PC soda bottles and soda bottle tops?
I like the soda bottle idea on the bag with pollyfill, but wanted to use tyvek in the same way.

I have a strong suspicion that pop bottles wouldn't survive PCing. Try pouring boiling water over one, I'm pretty sure it melts. My idiot room mate in college tried making tea in a used evian bottle once (because we had no clean mugs) and the bottom melted out. If it can't even survive that, there's not a chance in hell it'll survive 250F. The cap ends, however, are made with thicker plastic which is probably how they make it through.

Hmz but the evian bottles are maybe less quality? The yare much thinenr then lets say a plastic coca cola bottle. Here the coca cola bottles have "return money" on it. They are re-used and it would not surprise me if they are cleaned with boiling water.
But one should take it to the test I agree on that.

Im almost positive the melting points of different plastics have been discussed already...try a search.

I work at an injection molding plant, but I don't know what plastics they use for blow-molding... (That is how those are made.) I will find a bottle that will survive!

it will dry out and it will leak slowly. plus the leaking seed/rye juice will attract infections from the outside. very good idea though
