I don't think secceeding from the Union would be a good idea. I think this just emphasizes the fact that the Federal government is too big for the country's good. We NEED to shrink the size of the government, making it do only what the constitution says it's supposed to. Put more power in the hands of states and the people, not the feds.

I have to agee with DNKYD. I rather see less government involvement than see a break from the union. It just isnt a logical move and its pretty irrational.

That'd be awesome if they seceded and joined Canada.
It'd be a huge slap in the face for the Federal Government

Would that be possible, though? It'd be interesting to witness. I mean, Canada and Cali seem to share a lot of the same stances such as homosexual marriage and medical pot. If that happens I'd surely move to that new Canadian province.

I'm not sure if the US would allow any of it to happen, doubtful they'd even let Cali secede, but that's how Texas joined the US. They seceded from Mexico and then joined the States. From that perspective I don't see why Cali couldn't do the same thing as Texas, except seceding from the US and joining Canada.

i think this idea of secession is based on the popular misconception of the infamous "jesusland" map (the first one in the link)...but when its broken down into individual counties (fourth map)..then jesusland suddenly becomes much bigger..and includes most of CA...by far the greatest disparity was in IL..which kerry won by 10 points..but only carried two counties...

They won't have to secede because Calif is eventually going to break off of the United States from a major earthquake and sink into the ocean... good ridance! Aenima!

we'll need them for their water.
I've long thought we should go.
we've got excellent natural defenses with the sierras and the deserts.
we've got incredible agriculture and industry, there is no reason why I think we shouldn't just bounce up out of this bitch.
the rest of America is holding us back.

LOL!
What's holding California back is the fact that the state legislature is run by Lefties. What's worse is that as leftist as the State Legislature is, some city councils are even further left. California's other big problem is the drain illegal immigrants put on State income redistribution schemes and health and education resources. California is not alone in this, of course -- Florida and Texas face basically the same problem.
But to claim the rest of the US is holding California back is.... um.... cute.

Sorry, you must be confusing my views of Canada with my views of the US. While it is undoubtedly true the US is more left-leaning than it used to be, it is still the least left-leaning country around.

you haven't looked at the county by county breakdown from the last election have you?
while I agree that the bleeding hearts have bankrupted this state, we are by no means a state full of hippies and dreadlocks.
what's holding us back from continuing towards progress is the rest of this ass-backwards bible thumping cesspool of idiocy called middle america.
