black morel, conifer false morel or fluted black helvella? I found his lonesome ass growing out of somelandscaping mulch on my block. Dirt and mulch mix.

Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.

sure? the stem is the tricky part, all th falseys ive seen had smooth stems. by the way is that what is referred to as fluted?

I'm going to go with Helvella lacunosa due to the lacunose (pitted) stem.

I agree with shroomydan. That looks like Helvella lacunosa.

I'll third that, found those growing around my parts the other day.

my buddy and I keyed them for his mycology class, everyone had to bring in a specimen they found and that happened to be it!  so while I'm no pro, that's a mushroom ID I just learned :laugh:
