IT's ALIVE! Self contained glovebox, incubator, fruiting chamber! PICS!
    #3613307 - 01/11/05 05:02 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

Mwahahaha! It's alive, finally, after a month of toying with it and getting ideas, my beast of a growing setup is complete! I'm going to put the how-to in a grow log later if everyone likes it. So, enjoy!

Here's a pic of the whole setup; the glove box/incubator/fruiting chamber, both sets of drawers, and the humidifier and air pump.

My Temp/Humid sensor:

Top view:

The filter for air exchange:

The humidifier and air input hoses and filters/cutoff valves:

The drain:

Drawers for storage and support:

And the electric blanket that both heats and conceals my setup:

There it is, in all it's beauty. My blue LED light isn't installed yet, as I do not need it until fruiting starts. Tell me what you think, and I'm more than open to any suggestions you have.

How warm does that blanket get it? What brand is it?
Thanks.

It's a sunbeam twin size blanket, setting 3 of 9, and it's at 84F ATM.

That is very impressive. I have never seen anything like it. My only thought would be that you couldn't do a second grow w/o having to clean the inside out. Other than that, ingenuitive indeed.

Working on a second chamber identical to the first for secondary batch of jars, or I may move up to the 50gal tubs and increase my work area.  Plus, the 50gals aren't clear, which I am beginning to dislike about my current chamber.  We'll see.

Not as of yet, the blanket seems to be pretty constant in heat output.

Hey I like the setup!

But its a incubator and fruitingchamber glove box in one? I dont like then:
- I cant work in glovebox while incubating or fruiting
- I cant incubate while fruiting

It will work when only working with one batch at a time all inoculated at same time. Then fruit. After harvest make syringes and prints, liquid culture, agar etc in glovebox. Prepare new jars in glovebox > incubate etc.

Hey I def. dont wanna bash your setup cause I like it, technically. For me (mind that: FOR ME! ) there are some disadvantages in it though....

Good fucking luck!

I was looking at all sorts of fruiting chambers and I was considering those drawers, but my problem with them was that they are clear on the sides and not so on the top which I feared would cause them shroomies to grow not-straight. So I chose differently.

As for an incubation chamber, I figured they wouldn't work because they let light in. Hopefully that wont be a problem for you with that big blanket covering them.

You like all that humidity for those colonizing jars?

Is that big clear box with a hole in the lid goign to be the fruiting chamber as well as the glove box?

Looks like you spent a pretty penny. That's quite a few syringes, where'd you order from?

The 97% RH is left over from the dry run I did, it'll drop in the next few days. I got all my spores from TLG, about $40 worth for 4 strains plus a free one. I spent about $200 on the whole setup, not too bad considering how much I can do with this. I'm going to add another tub of some sort to use primarily as a fruiting chamber so the glove box can be for sterile work and the drawers can be used for incubating. It's a work in progress, keep up with the ideas.

I think in the end that is what you want, separate fruit- incubate- and workchambers. BTW I like the mouthcap as a filter!

And some RH in incubationchamber aint that bad, 97% might be overdone but when its too dry it can dry your jars out.

most people seal there jars with tyveck that that has little to no air exchange and usely only two/four holes are there any ways so the likely hood of the jars drying out in the 10-14 days it takes to colenize is rare but i suposse it could happen

AGreed. AFter having cakes stall from loss of too much moisture (due to hotpad incubation) a little rust on the lids is a small price to pay.

Hey! WHy don't you add another RM under your glovebox and put a couple doors in the lid so you could incubate or grow under your G-box and still have it all self contained. You could just reach down into it from the glovebox. Then you could do a little more multi-tasking. My FOAF just got done building a huge glove box because he was tired of the Rm balogna! He wishes he could be happy with your set-up but he likes to make things big! Good luck, hope it works good:)

I may well do that, I'm already considering getting a much bigger tub (maybe two) to use in place of the one there now, so we'll see.

Well, I added a second glovebox identical to the first and hooked up the air exchange and humidifier to it as well. Now I have a two usable glovebox/fruiting/incubating chambers that I can interchange, and am now using the drawers as incubators as well. Broke down and bought a pressure cooker, quart jars, and some WBS also. I think my collection is almost complete.
