Best casing method

I should state that afoaf i know is new to this but here is the question. Which casing tek produces the most shrooms from one cake? also the cake is about 80% colonized, should he wait for the cake to be 100% to start casing?

Wait for 100% colonization. Your friend, being a newbie ought to keep it simple. I reccomend straight verm or 50/50 +. Follow the directions and you should get enuf.

Well, in my humble yet sometimes feeble opinion, I would say just do a double end vermiculite casing and grow it out as a cake, as per the PF tek. That is, if it is a 1/2 pint cake. Or, try the sea of shrooms tek, by which you split the cake in half and case both halves in a cup. The rumor is that this works fantastically well. I would also agree to use vermiculite or 50/50 as your casing, as both are easily aquired.
