Very poor FPS in Counterstrike
    #3613145 - 01/11/05 04:31 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I'm runnign a P4 at 2GHz with an ati 9600XT and im getting shit fps in CS. My fps is jumping between 30 and 80 when it should be at a constant 99. I used to newest official ati drivers and still had poor fps and im running the omega drivers right now and im still getting poor fps. Ive tried putting all the settings to the lowest quality and i still get shitty fps...

anyone have any ideas what i can do to fix this?

Are you running the cs 1.6 or source?
How are other games performing?
Are you running any processes in the background that may be taking up system resources?
Are you running in opengl mode or direct3d mode in cs?

You must mean original CS, that system could never score a 50 average at Source.

You're not getting much HDD swapping are you? Also, is this on remote servers or local? It might be network settings if this only happens on remote servers.

Try using direct3d. I know one of those settings worked great for me and the other sucked, but I can't remember which one worked.

I don't want to use direct 3d.  I should be getting max fps in opengl no problem with my set up and im not.  It's pissing me off

HDD swapping is when your hard drive reads and writes when you're loading stuff. If it happens during play, it causes a noticeable delay, and it means you don't have enough RAM to accomodate all the textures, sounds etc. in the game, or the game isn't using all the RAM available. This probably isn't your problem though, as it would cause noticeable stuttering for a second and you'd hear your hard drive working as it happens.
