liquid cultures

I'm just wondering what containers most people around here use for liquid cultures. Half pint jars are great because they hold quite a bit of culture and are breathable but they are a BITCH to open. I like using small glad containers with lids that pop on and off, but they have no filter. So I'm just wondering what others prefer.

I use a small jar. I was just wondering if having a liquid culture turn brownish (carmalization, yes?) was going to cause the nutrient to be unusable by the developing mycelium.
