What's with the shrooms that start growing and the caps turn black and they stop growing at about an inch tall? Are those abhorts or is something weird going on? I want to know that the black caps aren't contamination or something.

They are simply aborts. It's best to pick them before the caps become totally black. If you look close at the pins each day you can see which ones will abort. The center of the cap will usually begin to darken first and eventually spread to the whole cap. After a while you will be able to tell which ones will abort easily.

Yes, those are abhorts, and whether it's a lot or a little, you'll get some with every flush. Pick them before the heads turn black, and make sure to get all of them to promote healthy growth with the next flush.

Some of them had been on there for about a week. Are they no good to use? And one was rather blueish insude when I picked it. Is that a sign of contamination?

I save all the aborts for myself!!! They are good and have lot's of magic if you pick them before they rot.

Yes I eat aborts and am proud of it!
