Is using a Ceramic Heater a bad idea?

I have a small ceramic heater, which has fan, inside my grow chamber, where my terrarium and incubation tub are. The heater comes on by itself and keeps the temp consistantly around 84 (I'm only incubating right now.) I have two concerns: will this produce too dry a heat and dry out my jars? Because in my house it seems to typicaly be <10% humidity to begin with. The hygrometer inside the incubation tub is reading 60-70% humidity so far. My second concern is that the built in fan might stir up bacteria. I wiped down the entire chamber with bleach/water, and I have a hepa in my room.

That ceramic heater appears to be setting next to your terri, rather than in it. I see a pickle jar heater set up in it. So, I don't quite grasp your question.

true, the heater IS next to my terri, but the terri is inside a cardboard + tape 'room' (this 'room' is my 'grow chamber') that is inside my closet, which would otherwise get down to 60 degrees nightly. That little pickle jar setup probably wouldn't keep the whole room at 82-86, which is neccessary since my tub containing my jars is sitting on top of the terri (although it's only about 1.5' x 4' x 4')

The only thing is it might be a fire hazard. I think most heaters now are pretty safe with overheat and tipover shutoff. I would recommend a heater with a thermostat so it shuts off at a certain temp. I would buy something like this, http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=2388966

I had that same exact heater in my incubation chamber...
Yes, if you have any opening in your jars, you will dry out your cakes. However, if you have totally sealed jars, they will be fine, but slow to colonize... (About 6 weeks, letting contamination dominate.)

I now use a Coffee mug-warmer plate, with a glass of sand on it. It cost me $1.50 at a thrift-store. I also use a cobra-mat attached to a flat steel cookie sheet, with a towel on it. (The jars sit on the cookie rack above the towel.)
The Cobra-mat provides efficient heat, while the hot-plate provides heat mostly when a temp drop occurs after checking on my cakes. (Soon I will be installing a plexiglass-viewing window. So that I don't disrupt the temprature in my cabinet incubator.
