January 20th, Protests, Inauguration
    #3610131 - 01/10/05 10:40 PM (15 years, 9 months ago)

I am wondering how many of you are planning on participating in protesting the neo-con agenda on January 20th when President Bush takes office for his second term.
There will be protests in Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Seattle and San Francisco initiated by the A.N.S.W.E.R. coalition, there will also be protests in other cities nationwide, but i dont have any information on those.

San Franciscan activists will meet at the Civic Center at 5pm.

The Washington DC protest will converge at 4th and Pennsylvania Avenue.

Los Angeles: Gather at the Westwood Federal Building at 6pm!

Seattle: Gather at the Federal building at 5 pm!

Anyway, for more information you can go to www.answercoalition.org

I'm thinking about going to watch the Y.O.U.F.U.C.K.I.N.G.L.O.S.T AND G.E.T.O.V.E.R.I.T groups in DC Of course, I'm hoping I can hear how Bush stole the election this time too!

I suppose they are protesting the fact that the will of the people is being done, rather than some morbidly obese movie producer?

They're protesting the neo-con agenda, not losing the election. I'd love to protest their imperialist agenda, the Project for the New American Century, violation of constitutional rights. It's not about who won or lost, because right now America is losing. Jeez...

We love our country but we CANNOT trust our government any more. Our government is totaly out of control. George Bush is FULL OF SHIT. And who do you believe? Do you believe George Bush or do you believe ME? That's what it's coming down to. Do you believe your NEIGHBORS, do you believe the PEOPLE that live in your HOMETOWN? Or do you believe these mad dog killers in Washington D.C.?"

nothing like ANSWER commies showing up to show us there really are two Americas.... one loyal to it and one that wants to go back living under king George III.

lets hope for a cold day. then it will be perfect for turning the fire hoses on the ANSWER rioters.

yes, in the eyes of Freepers.

in my eyes, they are out-of-touch authoritarians who, by way of large funding and organization, hijack movements in an attempt to stear people into their communist ranks - they are 1st about their own political agenda and 2nd about peace. I would protest Bush Inc. but I wouldnt stand with ANSWER. Fuck them both.

I hope these protests will end up violent enough and/or with enough protesters in DC(200,000-300,000 would be cool) for the world media and world population to give them some good attention. If there's only like 10,000 that would really suck.

Because Americans need to show that they realize something is going wrong in their country. They seriously need it. With great power comes great responsibility, right? well let me tell you that alot of the world population thinks that the responsibility that is put in the hands of Mr. Bush isn't being handled very well.

I'm not saying that non-americans don't have any hope in americans, or that they think that they're doomed or banned to be ignorant and enslaved their whole life, what i'm saying is that, at the moment, The Rest Of The World needs to see the light of hope coming from the golden country be a bit shinier.

It would be good.

see, you're inaccurate impressions are not the same as "these guys are calling for RIOTS on inauguration day." You're really stretching if you think ANSWER is calling for riots. See, I am quite familiar with ANSWER. I have been to their demos and I have interfaced with their organizers - they are incredibly against protest violence. They are against Black Bloc tactics and agressive direct action. They do support non-violent protest tactics, but this is certainly does not mean "riot" - quite the contrary.

Now, this does not make ANWSER some sort of benevolent organization. They'd rather have people join and donate to their core party, because that is their essential agenda.

See, I was involved in the anti-globalization movement in the late 90s and early 00s. We were violent - I, myself, particpated in street combat with police and property damage. I was teargassed and shot at with rubber bullets in Quebec City and fought back with molovs and rocks, for one example. Well, I am older now and looking back, I realize we accomplished very little. The focus of attention was toward the violence (although just at use - very little was said of police violence - and that was 10x worse than what we did). Seriously, all that resulted from those days was more police demonstration crackdown, massive police surveillance, and "free-speech zones". The actual issues of global economic justice were forgotten.

I do not think violence is the answer anymore. Demonstrations are not the answer - they are just spectacles and feel-good actions that rarely ever acutally accomplish anything. That doesnt mean we should never gather together and collectively speak out, that just means we should not solely focus our activities around the demonstration; we should not place faith in the demonstration. We need to actually create shadow economies and local power - we need to break away and evolve.

Geesh, Canada definately needs Fox News as well as free speech. I'm pro-globalization because it makes me rich. Thanks for all the oil and natural gas you send to us. BTW, I recently bought some shares of Petrofund and Pengrowth Canadian oil and gas trusts. The dividends are over 10%.

So you want violence? That would sure get a lot of support for the protesters.

What exactly are they protesting anyway? The inauguration or an elected president?

I realize we accomplished very little.

One may never know the totality of the effect on the world of one's actions. And plus, maybe you would have accomplished even less had you not expressed your anger.

The actual issues of global economic justice were forgotten.

Ya the media tends to forget things very easily.

we need to break away and evolve.

Do you honestly believe we can break away without any violence?

"So you want violence? That would sure get a lot of support for the protesters."

Depends on who's the most violent.
And anyways, I think attention is what is most needed, afterwards, hopefully the media will keep an objective view on the situation and not support one side in favor of the other. I believe that individuals should be free to choose which side they support without the media guiding them in suspectful manners...
