50/50 Schults Cactus mix and verm for casing?
    #3609852 - 01/10/05 10:30 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

Would a 50/50 mix verm and cactus potting soil(contains peat, perlite, etc) and a bottom layer of verm be suitable for a casing?

------------

UPDATE:

I tried this, it works. I figured this much after reading the ingredients.

This casing method worked well even without sterilization. I just mixed the water, verm, cactus mix in a bowl and cased with it as is.

These casings were made using PF cakes on their 4th flush. I got pretty good yields off of them on the first few flushes(at least 2.5 dry ounces), using the dunk and roll method of casing. I decided to case them using a 50/50 mix because the cakes were looking drier and smaller after each flush. I figured they could use the extra moisture a larger casing would provide. The larger casing took 6 cakes, and the smaller one 4. I figure this flush will weigh out to at least an ounce dry.

In conclusion, cactus mix works well for casing. If cacti like it, I'm sure shrooms would too as they both LOVE moisture-- and this soil can hold a lot. You might not even need to add that much verm.

Strain is Blue Meanie (Ps. Cubensis).

I'm not sure, but I think the bag listed that it had hydrated lime in it, which is almost the same as oyster shell.

I'll take pics when the pins are more noticable.

yes potency will be fine the casing layer has nothing to do with that if you been around you seen rogerrabit has cased with dollar bills, bibles, even used marijuana as a spawn i think trust me that casing mix will work fine contains almost no nutrients which is perfect
