Is is spiritual to pass on rumors with the intent of damaging another? When those rumors turn out to be false, is it then just for the messenger to blame his/her sources for being faulty and abdigate all responsibility for harm?

I think passing on rumours of any kind without verifying them is unspiritual. By passing a rumor on, people are mostly trying to compensate for something they are not.

I can't find you such a teaching, but I can point to "service-to-others" teacher that disclaims any responsibility and ill intent for hurt inflicted. Seems too many are good at preaching, yet are unable to follow their own tenets.

They spread them BECAUSE IT FITS INTO ONE'S AGENDA. Veracity is secondary.

So I believe we all have a right to spread our beliefs

Whats the difference in the end? Should people be allowed to paint the pictures of themselves and the world if they wish to without others causing damage to their art work or not? Because if you say not to save and preserve your own art then you have to stop it too lest you become known as a hypocrite who says do as I say and not as I do.

The truth cannot be harmed and faulty beliefs can indeed be harmful.

I asked you about the intentions of discrediting something to break down delusional beliefs others have for the good of the whole and what the difference was?
What is the difference in intention of doing so? You move to break down delusional beliefs that you think may lead others to joining heavens gate cults and the person you are referring to about spreading rumors was disillusion others who joined the swami cult.
maybe you had no intention of creating a cult following here, even though you made a puppet to recruit people in PMs and on the board, but someone saw you brainwashing others into joining a cult like movement and had intentions of breaking others from their delusions about you.
The intentions NOT THE MEANS but the intentions are the same and for the same cause. I see no difference regarding your intentions or goal or the others looking out for the good will of a larger group of people easily influenced by someone charismatic.
The difference between the intentions is what I was addressing and asking you about.
