stacking tote's?
    #3604300 - 01/09/05 04:06 PM (19 years, 1 month ago)

i was thinkin of building a fruiting chamber with lots of bins in it...with clear plastic over the shelving unit...with a cold mist humidifier and an ultrasonic...blablabla....but now i'm thinkin of keepin it simple...and gettin a bunch of stacking tote's...and then just stacking each terranium over one another...i want to do casing...and twice a day movin the top one to the bottom..fanning it out...blablabla...lil more work...but less initial cost..and worry.
what do u guys think?
the light will be attached to the ceiling.

Your idea is more work and if u stack them over each other how will they get light from overhead? The lighting will come through the sides ......eleborate a bit more when u say, one on top of the other...

whats so bad about havin the light come in from the sides...the light will still be above the bins...but will be situated a lil to the sides.
so the mushrooms will kinda lean to one side...but they will still grow UP.
by on top of each other...i mean one bin placed right on top of the other bin...all the way up almost to the ceiling.
and if light is a big issue...then i can rig each one up with a lil light in the middle of the lid.
just this way...its more physical work...i intend to make somethin like a martha at some point...but for now...don;t u think this will do?

they won't grow up, they will grow to the sides. all light from the top will be covered by shaddow of the substrate layer or layers of casings.

Lol, you've got a point, they will still grow, and you could put a light for each one, just be careful and make sure that they have enough to grow, wouldn't wont any monsters crampted =)

No I am just saying if you want to stack the bins then the martha setup is an idea for you.

If you have HIGH tubs (doubletubs) You could also stack them without having a Martha

what are double tubs?
the ones i am using are 20in high...so there is plenty of room for casing and mush growth...

I guess you can stack them then. The shrooms wont grow 100% vertical but hey, thats wouldnt be a problem would it.
Transparant lids? make some shelves then there comes light from the top too.

Doubletub do a search bro. DT = selfmaintaining tub, mostly used for casings though.

Can also be done with a high "singletub" with an aquarium pump. Then you dont have to cut your tubs....
