    #3606774 - 01/10/05 06:56 AM (12 years, 5 months ago)

the title says it all. mother nature hates me this weekend. so how cold can mycilium get before there is problems? my jars are at about 90%. im snowed in and very remote. the only way i am typing right now is cuz i have a small power inverter in my truck and a long extension cord. ill run out of gas if i hook up the tit and keep the car goin, making me stranded on top of a mountain. ideas? please? my first grow was goin so well....

As long as they dont freeze they can recover, chill.

Wishing I was remote,

I would wrap them in a shitload of blankets. Any heat that is in the jars, needs to be kept in the jars. As long as you can keep them from freezing, they should be fine. If they get cold they will slow down, but as long as they don't freeze, it shouldn't kill the myc.

I am also remote. Born and raised in the city makes the solitude very difficult to deal with.

Put your tit on your head, the heat from your body will rise and heat the mycelium!

J/K

Seriously, Place them in a room you occupy, close to the cieling. It will be warmer up there, warmer than on the floor.

If you have an old metal trash can, grille, or meat smoker... improvise.

We use one of these bad boys when we go skiing up in vermont. It is cheap, simple and effective. We use phonebooks, and scrap wood, and logs.

Trash-Can "Bum" survival...(Don't do this inside your house! You can do this on the edge of a garage, with the door open.)
- Punch two holes in one side of the trash can. 1" round about 6" away from one another.
- Place four bricks in the bottom, Two in the center, and one on each side, aligned so air can travel between bricks, to the far side without holes.
- Place a Grille on bricks, Round BBQ grille or Cookie rack or metal pipes... etc (Product may get destroyed.)
- Place two more bricks, One on the side with the holes, and one on the opposite side. (These should be above the holes, and should go from one edge to the other edge of the holes.)
- Place any form of quick cumbustable material between the bricks that rest on the grille/rack/pipes and put a few slow cumbustable materials across the bricks. So you don't crush the quick cumbustable material.
- Put the lid back on, with a small gap opposite the side with the holes. Wedge a coat hangar in there to hold the lid slightly cracked. You may also get it to be more functional if you flip the lid upside down, and put a heavy non-flammable item/items on top... More bricks, sand, engine block, Pan of water.
- Find something that can solidly fill one of the holes on the bottom, this must be non-flammable. Glass, Metal, Stone, Etc... This is called your damper, Open for more burning power, and close for longevity.
- The other hole should have a metal pole stuffed in it that is slightly smaller than the hole, EG, a 3/4 inch copper pipe. This will allow air to get to the other side, and this side. Do not block this hole... EVER
- Remove the top and light the quick cumbustable through the damper hole in the bottom with a roll of newspaper. Wait until it gets going. Then put the lid back on. and use the damper moderately to control the heat. You don't want a BAHN-FIRE, you want a slow smolder... Glowing ambers like a grille.

For home heat, Place several bricks on top, and carefully carry them while hot, to your oven rack for storage, to help heat that room. A pan of boiling water will also work, but may add unwanted moisture without a lid on it.

Sorry, I have been stranded in a log cabin several times, and found this to help a lot when the lines get knocked out... (Not something you want to do for a solid week, but will help in a two or three day situation. It also helps keep the place clean... no more paper, or scraps of wood laying around!

Once we got desperate and burned the cabins curtains, and a few old wood chairs in the garage.
