Panaeolus cyanescens "Jamaica"

panaeolus cyanascens (jamaica) rye spawn was prepared from agar wedges (thanks anno ) and used to inoculate a bag of sterilised horsepoo / straw / vermiculite. when the bag was fully colonised, it was dumped in a cleaned tub and cased with a thin layer of mixture of coir/verm/chalk/oystershell.
lots of air exchange (coolmist on a timer) and humidity (ultrasonic on a timer), plus misting the surface once daily. i never expected much, as i've been trying this species for over two years without success. but today - pins
in the background are some psilocybe cubensis (orissa)

hey my friend SHirley Knott!!!! i am so glad that you finally did it with pan cyans!!! i have been watching your tries these years!!! Well done!!! you will love tripping on pan cyans!!! very hard and smooth (at the same time) trip!
I have 2 unsuccesful grows with pan cyans. unfrotunately both times only 3-4 extremely thin pins appeared. I think that mayby the spore syringe i had had shitty spore genetics or something?! because i had optimal conditions!
anyway, bravo my friend!

thanks to all for the kind words - i'm stoked!
i have no idea how these will turn out, but they're maturing ok for now. from a lot of reading, i've been strongly advised NOT to mist the casing layer on these, so they'll be growing from a drying surface, and i'll lower the humidity a bit and increase air exchange to encourage evaporation
this goes against the conditions i should be encouraging for a second flush on my orissas, but these are way more important to me. there's a light to the right of the pic - can someone tell me if these grow towards it (i.e. are phototropic, as cubensis are) and whether i should therefore rotate the tub to go for photogenic vertical carpophores.....??

concerning the panaeolus spawn, i keep wondering why people keep sterilizing it and growing it out in spawnbags - not pasteurizing it and layering / mixing it properly?
is there a specific reason for that (like long/slow colonisation time) or is this simply personal preference? peace ohm

They don't look like P. cubensis on these pictures.

They say to sterilize because of the long colonization time and the being suseptable to contams more then cubies. Pasteurized stuff only gives you a window of contam free but properly sterilized shit will last until you contaminate it or it dries out.
I've never worked with anything but cubies but thats what a couple of people suggested in some pan cyan threads I've read and the reasons why they suggested it so take it for what its worth.
I know Shirley had mucho contam trouble apparently until doing it this way so to me...it seems likly the case..

Those are definetly Copelandia mushrooms, they just don't look like they are maturing properly. That is what I meant by weird.
