Knowledge or Happiness?
    #3604975 - 01/09/05 08:36 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

a machine that would give you the TRUE comprehensive answer to any question you could ever ask, as many times as you want

or

a pill that when swallowed, would make you range from happy to eupohoric for the rest of your life?

If you are in control of yourself you can be happy if you choose,
but you can't find the trouth just like that..

So I would choose the first one

Id take the truth then after i found out what i wanted to know id ask the machine to tell me how to achieve happyness.

neither they both could be false because i didn't find the answer or happiness on my own. truth comes from not questioning. and the pill for happiness is false beacuse happiness comes from within.

1. A machine that would give me answers to such things as how to make a lot of money.

2. A pill that would make me a happy idiot.

You didn't say "why" we'd be happy, now did you?

I'd rather just figure things out as I go along. It's like Pandora's Box or somthing.

i was thinking more along the lines that the first one, the machine, could answer all of humanities questions like, its there a god, does reincarnation exist, is there life after death, are we alone in the universe etc.

But the thing is, what if those answers didnt make you happy? what if the answers the machine (assuming somehow the machine knows the TRUTH) were not the ones you wanted to hear?

would you rather have a very ugly, inescapable truth, or beutifull lie? would you rather be wise or happy?

personally i think i would take happiness. hapiness stands alone, it is its own reason. but what is the purpose in knowledge if it doesnt bring an measure of happiness?
