Panaeolus cyanescens "Jamaica"
#3603867 - 01/09/05 02:29 PM (19 years, 22 days ago) |
|
|
panaeolus cyanascens (jamaica) rye spawn was prepared from agar wedges (thanks anno ) and used to inoculate a bag of sterilised horsepoo / straw / vermiculite. when the bag was fully colonised, it was dumped in a cleaned tub and cased with a thin layer of mixture of coir/verm/chalk/oystershell.
lots of air exchange (coolmist on a timer) and humidity (ultrasonic on a timer), plus misting the surface once daily. i never expected much, as i've been trying this species for over two years without success. but today - pins
in the background are some psilocybe cubensis (orissa)

hey my friend SHirley Knott!!!! i am so glad that you finally did it with pan cyans!!! i have been watching your tries these years!!! Well done!!! you will love tripping on pan cyans!!! very hard and smooth (at the same time) trip!
I have 2 unsuccesful grows with pan cyans. unfrotunately both times only 3-4 extremely thin pins appeared. I think that mayby the spore syringe i had had shitty spore genetics or something?! because i had optimal conditions!
anyway, bravo my friend!

thanks to all for the kind words - i'm stoked!
i have no idea how these will turn out, but they're maturing ok for now. from a lot of reading, i've been strongly advised NOT to mist the casing layer on these, so they'll be growing from a drying surface, and i'll lower the humidity a bit and increase air exchange to encourage evaporation

this goes against the conditions i should be encouraging for a second flush on my orissas, but these are way more important to me. there's a light to the right of the pic - can someone tell me if these grow towards it (i.e. are phototropic, as cubensis are) and whether i should therefore rotate the tub to go for photogenic vertical carpophores.....??

concerning the panaeolus spawn, i keep wondering why people keep sterilizing it and growing it out in spawnbags - not pasteurizing it and layering / mixing it properly?
is there a specific reason for that (like long/slow colonisation time) or is this simply personal preference? peace ohm

They say to sterilize because of the long colonization time and the being suseptable to contams more then cubies. Pasteurized stuff only gives you a window of contam free but properly sterilized shit will last until you contaminate it or it dries out.
I've never worked with anything but cubies but thats what a couple of people suggested in some pan cyan threads I've read and the reasons why they suggested it so take it for what its worth.
I know Shirley had mucho contam trouble apparently until doing it this way so to me...it seems likly the case..

Those sure do not resemble any Copelandia cyanescens I have ever seen. To begin wiht the stems are awful thick. As thick or most as the strip-tag that says Jamaica on it. Very strange indeed.
Send me a pm or email wtih your addy again and I will send you some nice pritns from Viet-nam and another form Phuket. phuket is the island where the Tsnumai hit pretty hard last week. I collected these some prints there a few years ago of Copes and Cubes.

and have a shroomy day.

Panaeolus cyanescens is the fastest growing Psilocybe mushroom you can cultivate. It is much faster than P. cubensis, if done right.

Those are Copelandia. A spore per basidia count will probably put it under the cyanescens complex.
Good Job Shirl. Start small their strong. < 1 gram dry is probably sufficient.

okay - let's take a look (pics taken ~3 minutes after beheading):

i gotta admit, these look nothing like i was expecting, nothing like all the pics i've seen. i thought thry'd have stems like pieces of cotton, would have caps like porcelain, and that the stem:cap ratio would 10:1 or more. these are squat, yellow, and fat-stemmed. i think i'll get over my disappointment, though
will harvest these all tomorrow and get them dried out. i can think of just one more test i could do........

anno and 'EonTan' aren't both wrong too often i imagine that the stumpy appearance is due partly to the fact that they were in a very humid (often cloudy) terrarium from birth onwards. Eon's moniker "wet feet, dry heads" rang a bell, so this time i'm gonna try to provide more individualised conditions for these my prime and most loved children. first i took the advice of many, and left the casing overnight floating in a bucket of water ...... then i recased with a different casing mix, replacing the coir with peat (also verm, chalk, oyster). today i checked out the emerging second flush.....
.....and put it in a separate tub, the lid cracked slightly to encourage evaporation. it's that or turn down the ultrasonic, but i'm still keeping it cloudy in there to encourage a couple of late-developing projects. one more thing - it's squatting in my tub-in-tub, so i can turn the heat way up if this is recommended.... comments?

I had some Pan Cyans in Jamaica I believe. They were black, and the dealer only gave me caps for some reason. I ate 3-4g, over the course of about 45 minutes or so, rather than all at once like I should have done. The effects were pretty sublte, I did get minor visuals for a few minutes. I'd say it was a level 1.5-2 trip. Definately not worth $25 bucks tho :P Maybe if they were grown rather than picked from cow crap they'd have been worth it. I got 'em on Negril's 7 Mile beach. I went from Jan 2nd-13th. It was a smoke-a-thon. Man, they had the crem de la crem (sp?) of outdoor weed.

last night 2g in tea ( click for link to foaming water ) - results 100% conclusive these are the most active fungus i ever ingested, way more powerful even than a previous 2g dose of psil cyan or even (surprisingly since the books say they're #1) azurescens. i don't read too much into this, as n=1 in each case, and no doubt set and setting weren't equivalent....... all three kicked cubensis' butt anyway, that's for sure, even if i only got 3g dry per flush compared to ten times that for cubies...........

I bought some Pan cyans on the 7 mile beach of Negril (Jamaica). I definately felt very euphoric! Visuals don't seem to be as intense as cubes though. The particular pan cyans I bought weren't very quality ones, but thats probably because they grew naturally, not cultivated.
