okay - let's take a look (pics taken ~3 minutes after beheading):

i gotta admit, these look nothing like i was expecting, nothing like all the pics i've seen. i thought thry'd have stems like pieces of cotton, would have caps like porcelain, and that the stem:cap ratio would 10:1 or more. these are squat, yellow, and fat-stemmed. i think i'll get over my disappointment, though
will harvest these all tomorrow and get them dried out. i can think of just one more test i could do........

Wet feet, dry heads = shorter, fatter stems and larger caps.
Be Very careful with that last TEST
Should get some prints off those.

anno and 'EonTan' aren't both wrong too often i imagine that the stumpy appearance is due partly to the fact that they were in a very humid (often cloudy) terrarium from birth onwards. Eon's moniker "wet feet, dry heads" rang a bell, so this time i'm gonna try to provide more individualised conditions for these my prime and most loved children. first i took the advice of many, and left the casing overnight floating in a bucket of water ...... then i recased with a different casing mix, replacing the coir with peat (also verm, chalk, oyster). today i checked out the emerging second flush.....
.....and put it in a separate tub, the lid cracked slightly to encourage evaporation. it's that or turn down the ultrasonic, but i'm still keeping it cloudy in there to encourage a couple of late-developing projects. one more thing - it's squatting in my tub-in-tub, so i can turn the heat way up if this is recommended.... comments?
