i found hundreds of subbalteatus today. Reviewing anarticlefrom a book citing that ingestion of raw subbalteatus has caused some people to suffer from stomach cramps and loss of muscular control. Does anyone know more about this subject? Are they safe to eat in the pacific north west?

yea the stomach cramps is called gut rot..a lot of people get this from eating fresh mushrooms probably because they are hard to digest..the loss of muscular control(and the hallucinations) is called trippin..lol..im not going to tell you its safe though..thats your choice if they are indeed subbalteatus..

The Pan. subbs I picked here in the southeast this spring did seem to upset alot of my friends stomachs when eaten raw, but they never complained of it too much. Its not dangerous to eat them raw, it just might cause a bit of discomfort. If you have a light stomach then I would suggest either a tea of the fresh mushrooms, or just dry them and eat them. If you have a steel gut, then go for it, you can't get more potent than fresh picked shrooms.

Yep, tea is always a good prep for the dung-dwellers. Well, for me anyway. Seems to hit faster, too! Stay cool!-Levi7.
