Pressure cooking away from the stove
    #359973 - 07/24/01 10:50 AM (22 years, 8 months ago)

So what's the best way to do this? Should I get a pressure cooker/canner with some sort of built in heating element? Are any of thosee electonic stove/skillet/whatever deals reliable enough to use for this purpose?

If you got the cash you can get an electric 25X All American Stereoclave then you can go to Myco Supply. If you want to get it for $50 cheaper (basicly shipping costs) check out the Drool Donkey Island for some cool links!

For a long time I used an electric grill to heat my preassure cooker, I think that it took a little longer to reach the right temp, but it worked fine. Mine came from Wal-Mart.

I have used a two burner hotplate that plugs into a regular 110 volt outlet and spanned both burners with my 21 quart pressure cooker. I does take a bit longer to get up to pressure but it does work.

I know this thread is very old, but it's the closest one I could find.  I have a glasstop stove that I've pc'ed on a handful of times now, but it's starting to crack a bit. I have an electric skillet in the garage, a 1500w 120v, here's the model:

Anyways, can I use the shitty skillet? Or what other options do I have to PC without using the glasstop?

-Big thanks to the site and everyone on it.  It's been a tremendous help and excellent resource.

No that wont work, but you can use something like this:

I use one like that for my 22qt mirro sometimes, only downside is it takes about double the time to warm up and get to pressure when compared to using a gas stove, but the point is it will work.

Ok, I appreciate it.  Once it has reached the pressure, still 90 min at 15psi?
