Since there are a few older people here, who lived their prime in a culture developed by them, this is not directed towards everyone.
But the majority of posters here are young, hippiesqe, dead-head worshippers who are as close to wanna-be hippies of the 60-70's as you can get.
My question is WHY? Why steal the culture of a time period before you and adopt it as your own? Why not create your own culture, and be your own person? What are you going to tell your kids?
"Well son, I was a hippie when I was growing up" "but dad you grew up in the 90's"
Come on now.
very true dude. gotta live in your own time.

If you haven't noticed, our time sucks......we're trying to keep the good times going. If you don't like that fine, but it's your loss, not ours.

I think that all generations believe that "their time sucks". So, why not make the best out of it? You think our times suck now, wouldn't you love to live back in the 1800's? No TV! No radio! No computers! And, heaven forbid -- NO SHROOMERY!!!
/me screams in horror.....

I wear whatever's comforatble, or around... if that conflicts with your dress code or something, well then I feel sorry for you. Personally I don't think I'm a hippie, although I am part of the counter-culture that most hippies are in nonetheless. I am a part of this consciously because it's a much better culture than the one I was brought up in, IMO. The American system is going down the shithole in the next year or 2 I guarantee. I wouldn't be suprised if a civil class-based war erupted in certain cities.. look for widespread Police State takeovers, government regulation of everything, I.D. cards, implantable chips, and of course the mind control is ongoing. Woops went on a rant!

I know exactly what your saying... except the hostility part, which i dont understand Being true to yourself, etc etc etc... is timeless and always changing. Adapt to YOUR environment.
Its sort of like when you see a skinny white dork from america who claims hes buddhist and wears an orange robe and has tibetan "stuff" all over his room (ie, my dad). lol Buddhism is in the mind. You incorporate that "state of being/mind" into your life. Your real life. A tibetan monk (or similar) wear robes cuz thats what they got. Pretty simple. But if you are born and raised in america, for fucks sake, just go get a pair of jeans and some t shirts from the thrift store. Nah mean??

That is a really lame novel. Kerouac is so, "Golly Gee" the way he writes. For Christ's sake.

Yea i'm not exactly thrilled to be in the MTV generation. I mean, it doesn't neccesarily effect me too much, cuz i just say "hey look, that right there, that thing is full of shit". But its tough because so many people my age are just UTTERLY CLUELESS as to how things work. And goddamn it makes a young fellow very lonely when like minded people are so innaccesible I guess thats why i come here so often, to the shroomery

Opinions are like assholes: everyone has one and some stink some worse than others...so, stink on and I'll stink on for you, because I love Kerouac! I have all his novels and I have read 'On The Road', 'Big Sur', 'Tristessa', and 'Dharma Bums' multiple times.

Yeah, it's pretty great, but I find it depressing, compared to the vivacity of 'On The Road', but hell yeah!! Stink on!!
