I did my wbs to the T, using some tek on here...
Well, i did three quart jars of wbs, i've had about 7 jars fail or colonize slowly using ideas posted, so i used my head...I decided that since the jars were too wet, maybe i shouldnt have to hydrate them as much...so i soaked and simmered 2 and the other one i just soaked....and who'dathunk? turns out my unsimmered one colonized better and turned out more like myc.. , heh. Well, it worked for me, maybe i didnt let the wbs strain long enough after simmer, but thats doubtful, so, just thought id let u kno that simmering maybe not be necessary....in my case, it was a good thing i didnt... Enjoy

Glad yours are working out. I just followed doc34, and some advise that anno had posted. So far out of 3 jars(pints), 2 just started to colonize. It's been 4 days ago that I noc'ed em up...so i'm impressed...for now. Well see what the next 10 days brings in.

I hope so. Never used it before, and I've been cultivating for a number of years. To be honest I've always enjoyed the simplicity of BRF, but latly verm. is getting alittle harder to obtain. So that coupled with all the talk of bird seed since I've come back to the shroomery....I just had to make the switch. Like I said so far it's proving itself as a keeper

I dry my WBS on a towel. Seems to work great! Sometimes a fan and a towel to speed things up. Then pile it in the jars and PC.

I don't "simmer" my WBS. But, I do soak it right up to the point it is about to sprout (24 to 48 hours).
