Open air birthing....
    #3600609 - 01/08/05 09:29 PM (19 years, 3 months ago)

Just talked to a foaf, says he's seen people grow cakes in open air, I was just curious as to how you'd go about that? Would you mist a lot to keep it nice a humid like, well best as you can with open air kind of conditions...just a thought....thankx

I have no idea, normal doesn't really apply here as much as i'd like...There's nothing to fan and nothing to keep humidity up....I figured that you could just mist everyday...It does it in natural...Even tho it may be more humid outside, I still figured that it could be done inside, i've heard that it's a bit harder but it sounds like a fun experiment.

=) true, but i have an area where im not to worried about anything getting on it, it's not exactly like nature, there's no wind currents to move the c02 and dust, but it should be fine, but im not really expecting a second flush tho, jus sounds intersting =)

i wouldn't do it without some kind of humidity. IMO, i don't' think you'd get past pins without some good humidity.

just my $.02

I think your friend hasn't got a clue about what he's talking about, I've never
heard of a sucsessful grow that didnt involve keeping high humidity and some
sort of air exchange, of course in the open air its not needed but the humidity
is a must because the moisture from the cake will evaporate into the air

Nature wants balance, thats why the wind blows, it moves from a high pressure
area to a low presure area, just as water evaporates, with water it condenses
and becomes too heavy and falls as rain...

Yeah, I don't know how many others know (prolly everyone, first timer here) but, I noticed that there was a dog hair laying on my perlite and there was a blackish tinge comming from that source. I instantly sterilized, and I'm cool, but, I don't think the colony would contam, but, the surroundings...

Nature gives the o2/co2 exchange...and they its best to go hunting after it rains...This is because it is most humid then and perfect for mushies...So, you could do this by misting...Wehn you have just a a cake/casing inside of a plastic box you have to mist a lot and fan.....Now you can do it in the open, its just more work.

It's not as complex as people might make it seem.

I've heard of people doing this with casings but not cakes. Sometime they don't need any extra humidity, But SWIM wouldn't chance it.
