limit to personal rhythm improvement
    #3600187 - 01/08/05 09:20 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

I have always been a little bit sloppy with my rhythm playing faster songs. I play piano but I mean in general too, like tapping a drum stick also I can't keep it super steady. Is there a way a person can improve this sense or is it just something you got or don't got?
My only other question is do you think it's true what they say that it's much harder for adults to play better than for children?

one.... you can always get better, you just nee dto lose your mind. seriously, no mind equals mastery.

two... yes! children can LEARN to play better than adults. adults get set in there ways very easy. a child can pick up languages super fast and learn instruments and train bees, or whaever.

peace

Buy a metronome and listen to it constantly.

sounds like you have a problem with mastery of the music. Play the song slowly and work up to full speed. Also, using a metronome deffinetly helps while learning the song.

yes children can learn better. I am a perfect example of this. I was started on cello when i was 4 years old. Music is like a second langauge to me, and i can play nearly anything i pick up.

I wasn't so good with rhythm myself but I'm a lot better at it now. imo it not only has to do with mastering the song you're playing but more with a feel for it in general. also once you have the feel the muscle movement you make to do a steary drum hit for example stays with you.

put on a cd and drum along with it with your hands. start off as simple as possible and see where it takes you. maybe also try this the next time you're tripping, that might make it easier.

so yes you can improve it, just practice!:D

play with a good drummer. practice a lot together and you will improve.

It is a fact that children learn easier than adults.

play scales in eight notes, than sixtenths 5 octaves. over and over again. you will get it.
