sterilizing gro-brick cocofiber
    #360013 - 07/24/01 11:57 AM (23 years, 2 months ago)

hey everyone....
ok, i bought a bunch of gro-bricks to use. a couple weeks back, i only used about half of the grobrick ...didn't sterilize it andi t worked fine because it was straight out of the sealed package. then, i used it a week later. took some from the open package and used it. got black mold and green mold.

question:

does an open pack of cocofiber need to be sterilized, if so..how?

Get a big pot and put water in it - bring it to a boil. Let the water boil for 5-10 minutes and then add the amount of coco-fiber you intend to use. Put the lid on and turn off the heat. Let it cool down. When ready to use - squeeze out excess water and use by itself or mix with oyster shell.

Yes, you could also use somekind of pillow case for this so you dont have to go fishing for the stuff when you boil it loose. Follow pasturization procedures, you can find step by step instructions with a little searching.
