cooking manure
    #3598399 - 01/08/05 12:45 PM (19 years, 3 months ago)

is it ok to pasteurize a poo verm mixture in a pillow case just as i will with my straw?
and...
how wet should i make it prior since the water in the washtub will be cooking into it also?

I prefer my poo with a little holandaise and a scone.

yes, as for the moisture, you should be able to take a handful and squeeze it
and have a drop or two form but not fall, if several drops form than its still
too wet

no, thats after you are done pastuerizing, I usualy twist the pillowcase
and knot it at the top and then press the excess out, then I'll hang it to
drip for about 5 hours, then take a handful out and squeeze it to see
how much drips from my hand, if its too wet, then you'll drown the mycelium
and too dry the colonization will stop early, you gave to work really hard to make it too dry.

Just FYI. If you are going to hang a pillow case of hot moist poo/straw out to drip dry a bit. I would advise sliding a garbage bag over it. That smell can draw GNATS from miles away. Once gnats find it. They will lay eggs in it, once cooled. Those ngnat eggs turn to larva that hatch & create havoc in a grow.

You are safe, if it is winter in cold counrty. That's not everywhere. Anywhere a fruit fly is ever seen, is gnat counrty.
