X-mas lights as lighting for terrarium
    #3598088 - 01/08/05 01:34 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

PLUGIN CHRISTMAS LIGHTS FOR LIGHTING IN THE FRUITING CHAMBER, I JUST THOUGHT OF THAT RIGHT NOW.. MAN I WISH I THOUGHT OF THAT A COUPLE MONTHS AGO!

Sorry.. its just that ive been trying to find a low heat, easy, very simple way of lighting my fruiting chamber for a while. Since I dont have money to spend and ive tried everything else.

Hope this helps someone..

buy a compact flouro bulb and walmart or target...etc. They have a little spiral look to them. cost about $3 for a 32watt bulb. Puts out about 7000lumens and uses less electricity and heat then ANY other bulb. Just screw that into a small reading light or something such and go from there. LITTLE TO NO HEAT

a cheap night light or christmas lights will work, the compact fluros will as well
but with christmas lights you can really pimp it out

make sure you use the small tree lights, they put off less heat

christmas lights arranged in a proper manner are capable of emitting A LOT
of light.
get the outdoor ones, they withstand humidity.

Is it possible to rig the light to make it run off a 12 volt battery? Im asking because i want to change from having a night light pulgged in the wall, to the christmas light that is directly inside the terrarium, so I can keep it hidden more.

if someone reads this and can find the post, that would be greatly appreciated...also does anyone know how long a 12 volt battery will last with just one small christmas light?

Probably pretty long if you have a timer. Just run the battery to the timer, and the timer to the lights. That way I'm sure an hour a day for a couple weeks wouldn't kill the battery. Maybe replace it after every grow.

if you hook them up to a DC converter and a car battery just hook the battery up to a charger and keep it plugged in, though that is prolly just a lot of un needed work considering you could just plug in the christmas lights
