So I have some good quarts of popcorn goin with various strains. I want to do some grain transfers to mycobags for some more substrate. The problem is I dont have a glovebox. Will the oven tek work? What if I do the transfer outside?
Also what is a good ratio of spawn to un-colonized substrate? Any tips etc. would be aprecited. thanks guys.

I did an agar to liquid transfer in the bathroom, very nice growth. You can put a tub on its side and work in that.

I second that, the bathroom is a really good work environment as long as you get it cleaned really well. Wipe down all the counters with a bleach solution, spray the air well with some disenfectant, and wear a mask and gloves. As long as you get it reasonably clean in there you'll have no problems working on your counter-top. Not to mention trying to use a homemade glovebox really blows.

Alright that sounds like a good plan to me. Im gonna clean that sucker spic and span and spray the hell out of it with oust... should do the trick. As for ratio I was thinking about 1/4. Does that sound about right? or Should I do more or less?

All the way up to 1:10 will return good results. Since my PC fits 7qts I just do 1:7, the jars are usually completely colonized in 4 days. Edit: A tip you may find useful, dump the master jar into a gallon ziplock and crumble like you would for a casing, that way its much easier to shake the jars, instead of having to shake the hell out of the to break up a bunch of clumps. I find that doing it this way, I don't need to shake the jars again after making them.

Rye was working for me for a while, but then the last couple of batches all got some wierd powdery brown contam. This is my first go at popcorn, but its seems to be workin a little better. I cant figure out what was goin on with the rye. I tested my syringes, sterilization method, soaking times... everything, but it just kept contaming. Still dont know what was going on. Before that, never a contam. It screwed up my whole cycle

Sorry to hear that, maybe it was just the kind of rye. Oh well, we all get into our own little niche here, maybe yours will be popcorn. Good luck with it, and I dig your art man...

I clean big areas with H2o2 and vinagre. the needle lighter gloves etc i clean with 70% alcohol.
Nowadays (lol) I use gloves as well and I bought a mouthcap. Without it I breath away from the working area.
