no one will answer in the contam forum (please reply)

8 1/2 PINT CAKES AND ONE 2 PINT CASING; ALL CAKES PROBABLY BIRTHED TOO EARLY AND WERE CONT'ED W/ PENICILLIUM. EACH CAKE WAS CONT'ED AND THROWN OUT. MY CASING HAS BEEN DIFFICULT TO JUDGE, HOWEVER. I CAN SEE NOTHING ON THE SURFACE OR SIDES. IS IT POSSIBLE THAT FULL COLONIZATION AND CASING MATERIALS PROTECTED THE CASING FROM CONTAM?
I UNDERSTAND THAT PENICILLIUM RELEASES AIR-BORNE SPORES WHICH CAN ALSO BE MYCOTOXINS.
THAT'S THE CONTEXT
HERE'S THE QUESTION:
if i need to inoculate a second "batch," then how would i proceed with cleaning the place?
I have a hepa running
is it realistic, or would i )))))HAVE))))) TO inoculate at a remote loc. (slightly possible, but patience is not one of my virtues

I'd go with the bleach bomb,Wipe down all the walls with a bleach/water solution.

i prefer to a-bomb (a is for alcohol). actually i a-bomb often as a general practice. Basically take an appropriately sized bin and spray the inside and lid down with 50-70% ispropyl, also soak the object that you'd like sterilised, place item in bin and close lid. Wait 5-10 minutes, remove item and wipe dry with a clean cloth.

bleach is pernicuous. the proper way to rinse bleach is with alternating hot and cold running water. it's vapors are rather caustic to your airways.

alcohol is considerably safer and cleaner to work with. just get a handheld garden pump mister at your local lowe's/home depot to keep/spray it with.

regarding the area [Re: debianlinux]

i'm still a little confused as to what it is that you do to disinfect the area. penicillium releases an airborne spore which is "ubiquitous" (f-ing everywhere man)
so...in that room ? in all rooms?
will the hepa do that job?

wipe down every surface with bleach or alcohol. Try spraying some (a whole can or two) oust around the room, its supposed to kill airborne bacteria. Possibly do this a couple days in a row to make sure you killed everything.

2 spraybottles, 1 with vinagre 1 with H2O2 is the real bomb. Spray the durface with both. Does not matter in which order you use it.
It cleans better then bleach and is not hazardous to your breathing system or eyes.
Vinagre smell dissappears rather quick after you wiped it.

ok, first... repeat after me:

I will not use caps lock to type a post next time.
I will not use caps lock to type a post next time.
I will not use caps lock to type a post next time.

ok... now that that's out of the way...

i'd either do the bleach or alcohol... i use bleach for hard surfaces that CAN be bleached and alcohol for everything else, esp. utensils.

the hepa will help get the spores out of the air. Oust! will do nothing to kill them. Spores are not bacteria. Bad advice hydr0420.

if your casing pins and fruits without visible contam, you're probably in the clear. every casing i've gotten that's contammed either wouldn't pin because of it, or just stopped growth since it was focusing on fighting the bastard contam off.

good luck my friend.
