indoor ethno species
    #3578086 - 01/04/05 02:03 AM (19 years, 2 months ago)

i live in a very nice sun filled house. the living room gets bright light at from 7-7, depending on time of the year. we have arched ceilings and hardwood floors, making it even brighter. the walls are a bright white plaster. what kind of plants would grow good in here?
i was thinking of growing some morning glories along the arches in my ceiling, but was curious if that would work or not? an other species that could grow indoors well?

san pedro, salvia (better not in full sunlight, but behind glass it's ok), morning glory will do fine I think. Hawaian baby woodrose is also a very nice one and lives longer too than MG, although there is a chance that it won't flower indoor for some reason.

Grow MG outside. It grows like a weed.

I personally would go with some tall cactus. Easy to take care of and beautiful also.

well i wanted a vine type plant to run along the arches. i am definitely growing some outside (HBRW & Morning Glory). i was going to grow the cactus outside too. I think i will stick with the morning glories inside. i am starting to wonder how often i will find myself picking up fallen seed. i planned on growing some salvia once i get over my fear of using it. i was going to put up some ivy plants instead of Morning Glory, but decided flowers on a Morning Glory are more beautiful then an I've plant, and they produce a ton of little treats.

Try coffee for your arches. It likes bright filtered indirect light. I have read, that if you are lucky it will yield a pound a year.
Go to a coffee roaster and beg for raw beans or buy them online.

id say that having a sally plant to your own and nurturing it from the start is exactly what one needs to do if they have a fear of taking it

I have an indoor belladonna plant.

Purely for aesthetic reasons though.

Coffee isnt a vine. Its a tree. I have 3 and they grow real slowly, id say 3-4 years to get 3'. Buy a live plant to save time.

If you want some vines go with HBW, rivea, and morning glories, but the MG's die each fall. One HBW untopeed gets about 9-14' in one year a few sould fill out any space rather quicly once they take off after 3-4 months, given there not rootbound.

Krantom is another tree to grow. And like others said pedro/torch or any cactus that takes your fancy is good.

Also, given the space, you can grow fruit trees. Your most likely going to need dwarf trees (grafted onto slower rootstocks) Givin half a barrrel to grow in you could grow bushels of apples, peaches, plumbs, oranges, lemons, limes and many more.

Also for your vines grapes is a good yielding and fun plant.

i am trying to picture a grape vine above my head. when the grapes fall off and bounce off my computer and head.. hahahahah.
i think i will go with HBRW. i am not planting the indoor ones for the seeds to trip off of, i am planting them for aesthetic reasons. so i would have to re-plant a morning glory every year? i think i will stick with these as outdoor plants. if HBRW stays alive longer, i will grow that inside. i will of course have tons of cactus. i am trying to find the best way to cut down a cactus and re-pot it in a new location. there are tons of people around my area that have San Pedro's sitting in the front yard, but they don't care for them. they just let them sit there and some start to rot, if i cut em down and take them i can give them a better environment to live in.. then of course they will be eaten eventually. i cant stand to walk around my neighborhood and see people just let their good hallucinogenic plants rot away. Or any plants for that matter

mushmush.cvom has all the cutting+rooting meathods+guides. And you are correct with teh MG and HBW's, Hbw's last decades, MG's months.

Hey I don't want to hijack a thread but I have a few questions regarding Morning Glory that don't really deserve their own thread.

I bought a pack of seeds the other day and am thinking about when to germinate them. Will anytime do for indoors and outdoors? How long should I keep them inside for if I do plan on moving them outdoors (Uk weather). Finally I have a mini greenhouse/humidity tent that I bought to cultivate salvia cuttings, will the morning glory not like the high humidty or will it grow fine?

Thanks

Start the MG seeds inside about 6 weeks before you want to move them outside. This gives you decent plants to start with and they won't shock to badly when you transplant them.
