songs that send you to other places! suggestions?
    #359477 - 07/23/01 02:49 PM (23 years, 4 months ago)

hey everyone hehe,
just came off of about 2.5 g of dried cubensis last night. i just watched the beach the other night ( pretty cool movie , i thought =) ). anyways , i borrowed the soundtrack to this movie and really liked a few of the songs on it.

1) moby - porcelein
2) orbital - beach
3) all saints - beach

i usually listen to electronic type music, or floyd, or some trip hop like hooverphonics, but never really experienced pop music ( all saints ). i don't even remember putting it on my playlist. well, i was laying there on the ground w/ my friend looking up at the ceiling. little tiny sticker stars all over my room w/ the blacklights blasting. then this song comes on ( all saints - pure shores ). AMAZINGLY HAPPY! i felt like i was on some beach on some island somewhere! it was such a carefree, relaxing, and happy 4 minutes! amazingly cool hahah. just wanted to share that. also, anyone know any other songs that send you somewhere else? forest? desert? distant lands? other planets? more beaches =).

Phish-You Enjoy Myself
Doors-The End
Pink Floyd-Brain Damage,or the whole Dark Side Of The Moon CD
Tea Party-Innana(maybe??)

I'd have to say, and I know I'm committing blasphemy by not mentioning Floyd or Aphex Twin, the "Killing Game" remix by Autechre, off of Skinny Puppy's Dys-temper Remix album. It's not amazingly happy, but it's also not terrifying like some Skinny Puppy can be.

Trust me. I usually tell my friends to sit or lie down when I turn off the lights and turn on this song. The ones who've tripped with me before lie down immediately, and the ones who think they can handle it look up at me off of the floor when the song's done, and ask "What the hell was that, and where did I just go?"

Some of deep forests stuff is really good but only of the album thats all green and leafy on the cover the rest of the albums are shit. Also the diamond sea by sonic youth is really good and pulk and kid a by radiohead are brilliant and should take you to unknown places but definately check out deep forest some of the tracks are fairly similar to that moby song you like but have rainforest pygmys or something like that singing on them

Alright, don't get me wrong i have listened to every type of music on shrooms. Only to find a soft spot for Phish, Floyd, Dead, Beatles, but i do have a suggestion, and that is to listen to Ozric Tenicals. A friend of mine introduced me to there music, It is pretty out there, i takes you away. Take into consideration that all of there albums have been composed under the influence of mushies. If you are interested, but can't locate the music, contact me and i'll see to it that you are taken away.

That's one of the best songs to listen to when you're tripping. Definitely take you to a few interesting places :)

The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band - if you don't like the Beatles then try listening to Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds first
Bob Marley - anything from him, good stoner music
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon - that's a given, anyone would say that
Moby - Play - great album though i didn't think so in the beginning
Radiohead - Ok Computer, Kid A, or Amnesiac - I mainly listen to these
others:
anything from Oasis
Led Zeppelin
Classical Music - great - Mozart, Bach
The Doors

You know its been a while since I've gone back and listened to all my old 311 discs. I used to be way into them, I was a fan whyen Grassroots first came out. I basically learned to play guitar by learning all their songs by ear. It was wierd though when I first listened to Transisitor I absolutly hated it. But it eventually became one of my favorite albums by them. "Stealing Happy Hours" is definetly a song that can take me places.

I doubt many of you have heard of Einsturzende Neubauten but if you can check out their song "Yu Gung (Futter Mein Ego)"

Amazing when high or tripping, the best I can describe it is insane german tribal industrial. Their whole Halber Mensch cd is seriously fucked up, in a very artistic way. I wouldn't play it at a party though, unless every one is really openminded (and fried)...
Oh yeah and your definatly right about Skinny Puppy but I would stay away from their cover/tribute albums and go for the real deal...

I haven't seen anything for the Smashing Pumpkins. Melloncolie and the Infinite Sadness or else Siamese Dream. The transitions in both go from soothing to heavy, making for a good mix, remeniscent of Floyd in the More days.

I agree with many of the things people have said in this topic.

Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is probably my favorite CD of all time.

Outkast is great, they are very innovative and so different from the majority of mainstream rap out there now.

Of course, Pink Floyd is also great.

However, there are a couple other bands I want to mention which I haven't seen on here yet.

The Olivia Tremor Control are often compared to The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and the Beach Boys. They are a modern day American band who sound like all these bands, but have a sound that is nothing like any of these bands. Aside from their great songs, they have sections with no singing and just many different strange instruments and noises, etc. These "soundscapes" seem to be meant for tripping. If you can, try to get the songs "Hideaway", "I have been floated", or "A Sleepy Company".

Another band is Godspeed you Black Emperor! To put it simply, they are a rock orchestra, with 3 electric guitars, cellos, violins, and other craziness. Their most recent CD, Lift your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven! is a double CD with 4 songs. Each song is a little over 20 minutes. Get any song by them.

Sorry I was a little long with that post, just wanted to let you guys know about some great, trippy music.

It seems the last laugh always falls upon us, and I won't fight it anymore.
And when the music stops I'll step back into the dark, and wait for the encore.

The Beatles- Sgt. Peppers, Magical Mystery Tour

Pink Floyd- The Wall, D.S.O.M, Echoes*(highly suggested), Ummagumma

The Doors- Self titled, Strange Days

RadioHead- Kid A, Amnesiac, O.K. Computer*

Cream- Disraeli Gears
If you have a cd burner you should make a mix for your trip, try to keep one specific mood going for the entire cd based on how you want to feel i.e. calming, spiritual

ANYTHING BY Pink Floyd, Hendrix or the Doors always gets me going. Pink Floyd Especially.
Tool Is good but I like them more for an acid trip. Their music seems too metallic to be in the warm peacefully shroom environment, but Third Eye is always great, and so is Reflection (or all of Lateralus) for any psychadelic. Nine Inch Nails is good for a sexual trip because the music is sexually driven.
Also listen to Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, made me cry HARD last time I tripped. It is very good for sending you places.
One time I listened to an opera and it felt like I was really there. Last few trips I've always had Fantasia around. Just listening to the music is great if you can't stay focused.

Albums by Dead Can Dance!! Their best IMNSHO is Spiritchaser, but A Passage in Time and Into the Labyrinth are both also extremely good. Anything by them is the perfect music for this sort of thing. My favorite song by them is Cantara, which is how I chose my screen name. If you have Aimster or another p2p mp3 agent, DL "Cantara" by Dead Can Dance....that song dominates.

Haven't seen the Animals album by Pink Floyd yet so there's that. Also, Drown-Smashing Pumpkins, anything by Summer Salt, anything by CCR like keep on chooglin', they always give me a low down smiling dirty hippie vibes lol.
If you're feeling more electronic or vocal, Purity Ring is good. Also I really really like classical music for a calm come up, it can be intense but it's so complex. Few other favorites include: How many Times-DOPE LEMON, Scarlet Begonias-as covered by Sublime, Riders on the storm, Space Odyssey, Going to California

It might just be me but certain jazz albums do this for me.
I listened to the whole My Favorite Things album by John Coltrane during the peak of my first trip(5g wet, weak dose but it was still great). I plan on listening to A Love Supreme next time because that one just sounds ethereal even without tripping. Another one I plan on listening to is the version of Voodoo Chile performed by Hendrix in Maui, even in the video people looked like they were tripping listening to it lol, I can't imagine what it would be like listening to that live while tripping.

On the topic of Purity Ring, I would like to mention the album Untogether by Blue Hawaii

It's cool to see such an old thread.

Grateful Dead - Touch of Grey will always bring me back to a particular mushroom trip I had where I was starting to go to a very dark place and that song came on my playlist and rescued me from the depths.
