Sweet! I'm pretty new to this myself, been interested for years but just really took the plunge recently.

I am not aware of any mycological groups in the area, but I haven't searched extensively either.

When I said we could possibly form a group I meant it very informally. Nothing cheesy, no "clubs" or "events" just some people sharing info and goin out on some hunts.

I figured best case we could find some actives, worst case find some interesting looking fungi and take some pictures then maybe go drink some beers and spark some doobs.

What do you fellas think?

I am down for a stictly "non active" hunt group. I would love to study some spores of psyilocybin species under a microscope though. lol i think we would need to find some more experienced shroomery members to guide us though.

"Non active" meaning of course we would only study purely legal mushroom specimens and examine active species spores under a microscope. And yes we would need to find a more experienced shroomer to start up a mycology group to share some knowledge with the noobies.

Hey Guys I live in Dallas during the week then return back to East Texas on Most weekends. I have been collecting for a little over a year in East Texas. Fact being I will be collecting again tomorrow. Problem is I am an old fart (46) and most shroomers today are quite young, but I was enjoying shrooms back when most today were still in diapers. Had a good shroomer friend but he got busted with 8 oz of dried shrooms. He should be getting out int he next month though. On a good day I collect about 8-10 oz and on real good days I collect literally pounds of wet. But you loose 90% of your weight once you dehydrate. If you do not mind hanging with a burned out 80's hippy e-mail me at: countrymanpicker2005@yahoo.com and we can see what we can put together.

Great, I live up in the 75-635 area in Dallas. There is a waffle house on Spring Valley and A IHOP. Will be back in Dallas on MOnday but laving out to go to Lerado on Tuesday morning early so will be real Busy on Monday. Will be down at Lerado for almost a week then back to East Texas. Will be several days before I have time to meet anyone. My life style keeps me hopping. I had puff balls for supper last night. That is the little round shrooms you see growing around. They are not "magic" but they are very tasty and good to cook up in butter and eat. If you want to learn about Shrooms a wonderful book on the market is called "Texas Mushrooms" By Susan Metzler and Van Metzler. ISBN number is #0-292-75126-5 and it is published by the University of Texas Press in Austin. It cost me around $30 and well worth every dime. There are two main species of "magic Mushrooms" in Texas. One species we call lamp shades and they are very weak and then there is the "cubes" (psilocybe cubensis)that are the good ones. I personally do not mess with the lamp shades simply because it takes so many to take a trip. There are so many species of shrooms in East Texas you have to be real careful. there is one that even looks like the "cubes" that is very toxic. So you have to be real careful what you pick. Also the old saying that if it grows in cow patties it is good is also a crock of shit. I learned a great deal about Shrooms back in the early 70's before I got married but did not get involved with them again till after my divorse. I was married for 28 years and she did not approve of anything, so was out of the picture for a while. Now I am out and about and loving it. Anyway pick up the book at barnes & noble or have them get it in for you. You will really be amazed at how many shrooms are in Texas.

Um. Too many drugs man. This post was about starting a mycology club, and turned out to be your life story with directions to where you live, more or less.

I think I speak for everyone when I say: what the fuck, man?

I might be interested in doing some hunting. Where I live it's still too cold/dry to find hardly anything, but even during spring I'm yet to find any actives. I have a fair amount of experience hunting and I've seen quite a few Cubensis up close, and I should definitely be able to spot them if we come up on some. I live a limited distance away from Stephenville if anyone here is familiar with it. Hit me up via PM if you live very close to me and you'd like to meet up sometime.

There sure are a lot of new Texas n00bs

No need moving an old thread to the Gathering Forum.
