    #3590161 - 01/06/05 08:11 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

hey all, i'll be building my terrarium soon and i wanted to attach a humidifier to it so i don't have to mist and fan all fucking day. I'm not sure what i want to use, so is there anyone out there that uses a humidifier for fruiting cakes? if so what kind of humidifier do ya use?

If you're just building a terrarium and not using a martha closet or something as large, then look into using perlite for humidity and an aquarium air pump with bubblewands for air exchange. It's a lot cheaper and works just fine.

well with perlite how often do i need to mist the perlite a day?(i would guess it depends on how much i put in there). also i know what a airpump is but what are bubblebands? and how would i get this to work for air exchange?

p.s. i'm just trying to build a simple terrarium that i don't have to check on all day, once or twice a day would be cool

thanks for all your help

For perlite you just put a 2" layer in the bottom of the terrarium and fill with 1" of water and that's it. You may have to add a little water every 5 days or so to keep it up to the mark but that's it.

A bubble wand is just a little stone that you submerse in the water under the perlite and it realeases the air into your terrarium by bubbling up through the water. You will need to drill a few 1" holes in the sides of your terrarium (easy if you use a rubbermaid) to allow for the old air to be pushed out. Just fill these holes with polyfill (found in the arts and crafts section of Wal-Mart) to keep out contams. The holes should be just above the level of the perlite. Reason for this is because CO2 is heavier than air and tends to settle at the bottom.

That's all there is to it. No fanning, no misting, and if you put your lights on a timer then you only need check it once every 4-5 days to make sure the water level is up and everything is going ok.

Hope this helps and GL with your grows.
