Can i grow with this kit??
    #3585900 - 01/05/05 07:57 PM (19 years, 2 months ago)

A friend of mine ordered a kit from visiongrowkits.com and it worked great, but i wanted to grow non-magic mushrooms for a class project, since they say you can grow all types from their kits what would you recommend?

thanks

It's quite a claim if they say you can grow 'all kinds' or even 'many kinds' with their kit.  From the brief look I made of the site, it looks like standard brown rice flour/vermiculite [PF] substrate.  There have been mediocre yields posted here using shiitake and oyster cultures [maybe others].  Honestly, unless you have zero materials and don't want to start up anything else, it's not worth the $$. If I really wanted to grow something for a class project, I'd just buy a fruiting block of any species you choose[from a shroomery sponsor, of course :smile: ] and either fruit it on its own or mix it up in some homemade substrate for that 'science project feel'.
Thinking about it again, I think I saw a cool post where someone got some nice looking reishi [Ganoderma lucidum] antlers to grow from PF cakes, but that would probably take more time than you have...
Good luck;

I looked at the gallery and saw their shiitake pics. . .interesting but not really phenomenal.  I still think it's your standard PF substrate :smile:

Give it a go if you want. But i would go with a pre-inoculated bag or something for that.

I did see they added some stuff but still a grain loving mix
