Quick Question
    #3583965 - 01/05/05 02:34 PM (13 years, 14 days ago)

I have read many TEKS and most of them say that when cakes are done flushing, they can be used to start outdoor beds. My question is: Is it possible to start new indoor cakes from an exhausted cake? If one were to put a piece of the exhausted cake say in the middle of a jar and then cover the piece with some more substrate, would it colonize? (excluding contamination factor) Has anyone ever tried this or is it not possible? Thanks for the help, Chronic

That would quickly contaminate... you can inoculate new jars with a fresh cake though...

If you have a bunch of exhausted cakes/casings, you could try a trash tek with them - crumble and dump in a bin with some wet verm and a light source.

Trash teks seem to have about a 95% contam rate, but some people have had good luck with them.

Birds of a feather...

I have had limited success casing spent cakes that look healthy, just scraped them good and put in ziplok to crumble. If it contams so be it but you might squeeze a few more out. Only if you have the time.
