How necessary is it to sterilize/heat soil for cacts cuttings?

If you don't over-water it and live in a warm climate area. Would it really be necessary for Pedro and torch? Or would it just be an added precaution?

It can't hurt.

I always sterilise river sand, that's one instance where you must do it.

1 hour at 360 is optimal for killing the nasties.

Its realy inportant for seedlings, but cuttings should be fine. Is the soil store bought? If so Id just use it.

Just use store bought soil. If you sterilize the soil there's a chance that you'll actually increase the chance of infection. Without the natural benign bacterial/fungal flora in the soil more harmful things are free to creep in. One example is the slime mold responsible for damping off.

"There is a world beyond ours, a world that is far away, nearby, and invisible. And there is where God lives, where the dead live, the spirits and the saints, a world where everything has already happened and everything is known. That world talks. It has a language of its own. I report what it says. The sacred mushroom takes me by the hand and brings me to the world where everything is known. It is they, the sacred mushrooms, that speak in a way I can understand. I ask them and they answer me. When I return from the trip that I have taken with them, I tell what they have told me and what they have shown me."

Right on. The soil in question is store bought. Just wanted to hear others take on it as I would hate to lose these beautiful pedro and torch cuttings that are before me. I wouldn't want to increase the chance of infection. Thanks all!
