From Cambridge Online:

Definition
hunt (SEARCH) [Show phonetics]
verb [I or T]
to search for something or someone; to try to find something or someone:

Foraging implies searching for food. Many of the species we find in this forum are poisonous or not intended as food...I think a minority of the posts are regarding species for eating.

Therefor IMO, hunting is an accurate description.

All of the mycological society types I know of refer to them as mushroom forays.

Of course, most people who hunt mushrooms *are* looking for food.

Happy mushrooming!
