CASING MANY JARS
    #3579319 - 01/04/05 02:16 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

I will be starting a new batch of 25 golden teacher half-pint jars. i was wondering how many jars to fit into one casing container(possibly a foil cooking pan thing)? currently i have a 54 quart container with 12 b plus cakes fruiting. should i buy one very large container for the casing pans or use several of the 54 quart containers? how big should one casing container be?? thanks for the help!

Use as many casing containers as possible and make the substrate 1.5-2 inches thick with a .75" thick casing layer on top. How many containers you use doesn't really matter. Thicker substrate then that will get you bigger shrooms but I've found that to be ideal for the MOST shrooms (weight wise). Thinner substrate will provide small shroomies.

You can use as many casing containers as it takes but you'll be best using sizes like this:

Or maybe smaller..just because if you put all your jars into one casing and that casing contams..you have to toss it and you got no shrooms. But if you split it into 3 containers all the same substrate thickness, and one contams, you got two more.

don't put all your eggs in one basket. spread them between a few casings, and maybe save a colonised jar or two to use as spawn for some new jars if you can do it cleanly: this is another benefit of grains (pourable).

work out the volumes of various tubs and try to get the substrate three inches thick or more for bigger mushrooms.

it sounds like you have a quite big hobbygrow going on - don't be foolish!

I have an ultrasonic on a timer and I mist alot. This closet eats about 7 gallons of water per week:

Theres no lines...you see my closet there...the alls are lined with plastic and the humidifier sits in the bottom middle (see the blue thing) with a fan next to it (unseen) blowing the mist around the closet.
