The hail I saw wasnt enough to damage anything...
But, no, it wont effect mushrooms, except if a big-ass hail stone dropped on a mushroom and killed it that way.
It doesn't need to be below freezing for it to hail. The freezes we got a few weeks back before the rain effected the mushrooms more than the hail.

Hail, eh? Must be having some hardcore storms to be having hail. I've never heard of hail lasting more than 20 minutes.
Just to make sure you just aren't mixing up weather terms:
Hail accompanies hardcore thunderstorms and is rarely smaller than the size of a pea. Hail stones can reach the size of grapefruits, given the right conditions. Hail is typically seen in warmer weather.
Sleet occurs when there is a warmer level of air sitting on top of a freezing layer of air. The rain freezes before hitting the ground, and bits of sleet are about the size of rain drops. Sleet happens in colder weather.
Just making sure you guys know your meteorology facts

its hail, we get it during the winter here. Sometimes in the summer. This storm that has been hitting us for the past week has a cold ass storm from alaska chasing it and when the two crossed paths we got some hail.
I believe you all down south get t-storms and hail when cold air from the north mixes with the wet wearm air from the gulf

We get hail only in the spring/summer here, sleet in fall and winter. Thunderstorms with hail usually carry a tornado warning with them. From what I've seen on the news about the winterstorm hitting Cali, I'd guess it's sleet, but that's just me. I've seen sleet when temps are in the upper 30s- low 40s, not too uncommon.

Hail is trippy.
It is formed with larger thunder clouds as Gumby said. The water droplets fall, then get brought up back again in a circular motion with the wind and pressure changes. It gets bigger each time it goes up and down until it falls and hits you on the head!
