question about my new setup
    #3576384 - 01/03/05 09:28 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

I have a feeling someone is going to tell me to "UTFSE", but for some reason it won't work for me (recently I get a "we cannot proceed" error whenever I search for something).

Anyway, I recently had to relocate/redo my setup, and I'm having trouble with electricity in my house. For some reason, running two heaters and a humidifier from one outlet is causing my circuit breaker to freak out and switch off. However, when I only run my humidifier by itself, everything works fine and nothing shuts off. Before I continue, here is a picture of what I'm doing here so you get the idea:

Oh and by the way, I am doing casings, not cakes, as you can probably tell.

So my problem is that I can't get any heat to my terrariums (but my RH is fine). I added a picture of my hygrometer to the bottom left corner to show that my temperatures stay between about 64-67 degrees without the heaters working. My question is: I know that the optimal temperature range for a casing is low- to mid- 70's, but will I be okay with this less-than-optimal temperature? Or is 64-67 just too low?

My hunch is that maybe I won't get as much fruitage (yes, I made that word up) as I would if my temperatures were a little higher, but I should be okay. Still, I wanted a second opinion from the fine people of The Shroomery, so let me know what you guys think.

Thanks!

you could try a heating pad on low setting, or just keep your terrariums on a blanket or towel or something. try and keep them off of that cold stone.

also, you might need to set up some kind of drainage system for those terrariums, unless you plan on emptying them manually.

looks good otherwise, but you really need to get the temp up! good luck.

Optimal=more everything/better everything

First of all, getting them off of that cold ledge will help. I've found that the getting things off of cold surfaces defiently helps. Also, where is that located? That window might be causing more coldness...

or maybe you can put them all in a Big box, then those heaters might work?

Shit, I didn't even think about the cold stone underneath the terrariums. Good thinking. I'll definitely find some blankets so they won't be sitting on coldness.

Oh, and this is located in my basement. The bottom of that window is actually about ground-level (as in outside ground-level).

And as far as drainage goes, my humidifier isn't really giving me much of a problem with water puddling at the bottom of my terrariums, but if any water does get in there (usually just a little bit), I just soak it up with a paper towel.

Yeah, the thing about the heaters is that I can't use them at all since I can't plug them in and turn them on without my circuit breaker turning off all the electricity in the basement.

Much thanks for all the feedback so far.
