When I was in college ('71-'75) a guy who was blind from birth was given LSD. He felt euphoric, they said, but there was no visual effect whatsover. In other words, nothing 'new' was happening (since he had no experience with Light, they kept asking if anything brand new was occurring). The optic nerve, retina and occipital lobe at the rear of the brain are all interactive, and there's no way to know where his congenital blindness originated, but Unfortunately, no Inner Light dawned from Mind itself.

That is interesting. I have only one course on neuroanatomy/neurophysiology behind me, but I suppose that if the occipital-visual cortex is OK, then it could theoretically be stimulated from sources other than the optic nerve, i.e., electrically or chemically. Good for your blind subject!
