Whats up in Louisiana?
    #3575086 - 01/03/05 01:15 PM (19 years, 3 months ago)

I went on 2 hunts, yesterday and today.I did'nt find anything but a few non-actives and some tree fungus.I figured it must have something to do with LSU losing on Saturday and Nick Saban going to coach Miami.
Anyone having any luck around the Baton Rouge area?

I stopped at field close to BR on my way home from Mandeville back to Lake Charles on Fri and found nothing. I found a few here in Lake Charles on Sat. I also noticed lots of pinning. The freeze over Christmas whacked things out. Check again in a few days.

ooooh dat's voodoo!have you tried your local golf course?I went golfing the other day and lo and behold i found a treasur of liberty caps every where.golf courses use alot of nitrogen to fertilize their grass, and cap's love high nitrate.check it out,i gues that is why true cap's grow in cow shit!

I live in west texas, and here it freezes, but about 1-2 weeks they come out again, look at any golf course,i find alot of liberty cap's at the local golf course, they use alot of fertilizer for their green's and fairway's and true cap's love high nitrates, hence the true cap's grow in cowshit!

Every post you just made is total bullshit. Learn your shit before giving others advice. Shrooms grow from cow shit because cows are grain and grass fed animals. Nitrates has NOTHING to do with it. You should be glad you're still alive if you ate any mushroom you THOUGHT was a liberty cap. Do NOT endanger other peoples lives by spreading your own lies.

Liberty caps DONOT grow in the Southeast at ALL. The only thing you want to hunt right now are P. Cubensis and Copelandia Cyanescens. These are found in cow fields. Golf courses will give you nothing if you are looking for active mushrooms.

And BR Voodoo, it would be best to take advice from someone who has more than 2 posts.

libs don't grow in LA. the main mushrooms around these parts are cubes. but here is the list of the LA boomers....

Psilocybe caerulescens
Psilocybe cubensis
Copelandia cyanescens
Panaeolus subbalteatus
Gymnopolis spectabilis

i've only found cubes and copes here in new orleans. hey it's good to see i have some fellow lousianans here at the shroomery! keep it live ganstas.

the fields should be fruiting sooner or later...i mean it is lousiana :P though i don't hunt anymore, the weather lately has been perfect. the nights are so dewie and humid its crazy. temps decent as well. just keep checking, i'm sure it's be up annd running by next week. winter only exist for a few days here in nola...then it's the hot muggy shit we all know and love.

i went hunting this morning in the field behind my house i found a few cubes like 12 caps it really too dry for them to be fruiting good but if you look in low areas where the water drains out of the field you can find a few like i said earlier im in mississippi not far from baton rouge looks like it might rain today too that would be awesome

Alsius,I'm well aware that Libs don't grow around here, and I was'nt taking his advice on looking for actives in a golf course,I was hunting for whatever was growing even tree fungus.I just was'nt gonna call the guy a liar.If he claims he found Liberty Caps then good for him.I've been a member of the Shroomery long enough to know who I should take advice from.

It's good that you know these things, because some people don't and that's what makes this hobby so dangerous. I'm happy you've found your niche with the mushroom and realize that it's not all about actives. Peace be and happy mushrooming!  :yesnod:

I too am from Louisiana(Southern, not far from you). And ever since that terrible frost before Christmas the actives have been very scarce. I have, however, found many Amanita Muscaria's and a few Lion's Mane(Hericium erinaceus) which I recently tried and found it quite delicious.

During lunch I took a drive by one of my most productive fields and it is much more fruitful than it was a month ago- and if you remember my pics of hunts from then, you know that field is seriously fruitful. It's raining too much right now or I'd go out and get some photos. Probably best I just stay away from them. Temptation to dose is still very strong. I've made it through the week and will be working on a new week. Anyhow, they are out there. At least in Lake Charles, LA.

Some great fields over near you. I thought about driving that way and checking out a field that is a known copelandia producer. Maybe tomorrow. I'm trying to finish Stephen King's The Dark Tower cycle on CD and have the last book to go through. Could use the drive time to listen to the book. I read them all, and they are excellent. Now listening to them on CD. Highly recommended.

West Bank of St Charles Parish. I'm in Ms again this week. Im going to go looking this weekend. There is a pasture right down the street that has produced some mighty fine specimens. So many in fact that they appear to be growing straight out of the ground. There is prolly some old dung down there somewhere , but I'm not digging.
